You will lead, mentor, and develop a talented team of engineers on Yelp’s JVM team in your capacity as Engineering Manager for the team. These engineers will build the infrastructure required to enhance and streamline the Java developer experience. Your team will develop developer productivity tools, libraries, and best practices to help authors write Java, Scala, and Kotlin code that is high-quality, effective, and maintainable. Developers will be able to work on many of the vital systems that support our products for Search, Ads, ML, Data Infra, and Android thanks to these frameworks.

You’ll act as follows.

You can support the team’s continued productivity by eliminating obstacles and streamlining team processes.
From recent graduates to seasoned professionals, mentor and coach engineers of all ages and experience levels.
Create a product vision and roadmap in conjunction with your group, key stakeholders, and other engineering leaders.
Contribute significantly to the hiring process, from locating and assessing prospective hires to helping to close new hires.
As your team builds out the infrastructure to keep up with demand while keeping an eye on reliability, support them.

To be successful, you need to:.

You have prior managerial experience and a “people-first” philosophy; you place a high value on maintaining a positive team culture and you lead with empathy.
Excellent communication skills that you also encourage within your own team.
Experience building JVM systems written in Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
