With the goal of creating a valuable, healthy marketplace between customers and a business, Yelp’s Ads team works on complex, multi-disciplinary problems at scale spanning machine learning, data structures and algorithms, optimization, statistics, and distributed systems.
As an applied scientist in the Ads division, you will be a part of a group that has expertise in control systems, experimentation, pricing, and auction bidding strategies. Applied scientists discover these insights through exploratory research and analysis, and they later develop the ideas into high-volume statistical or predictive models. The business of Yelp will greatly benefit from these insights, but it takes a lot of work to make sense of this data, consider the design of the system in detail, and identify various network interactions.
This opportunity is entirely remote, so you are not required to be in any particular US state to pursue it. We encourage applications from residents of all 50 states. This is what you’ll do:.

Identify challenging issues, take ownership of them, formulate testable hypothese, and produce significant business impact.
Start designing and analyzing experiments or developing causal and predictive models to test your theories.
Modify production procedures in conjunction with product and engineering, and provide information to other teams.
Your conclusions should be heard by audiences who are both technical and non-technical.
The team can stay up to date on fresh developments in ML and statistics by reading papers, attending conferences, and taking part in local events.
Automate and productionize model pipelines in Python services.

In order to succeed, you need to:.

You must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
a degree in a quantitative subject, like physics, computer science, statistics, economics, applied mathematics, etc.
knowledge of statistical software and data analysis tools (such as R, Python’s pandas, statisticsmodels, and Sklearn). ).
knowledge of predictive modeling/machine learning, causal inference, or forecasting.
a love for crafting beautiful code; proficiency is not required, but it’s a plus, and we expect you to learn as you go.
An established record of success in applied research, a desire to discover potential solutions for novel problems, and the tenacity to see your ideas through to completion.
