You will lead, mentor, and develop a talented team of engineers who will build the infrastructure required to enhance and streamline the Java developer experience as the Engineering Manager of Yelp’s JVM team. As part of the development of best practices to help authors produce high-quality, effective, and maintainable Java, Scala, and Kotlin code, your team will create developer productivity tools and libraries. With the help of these frameworks, developers will be able to work on many of the crucial systems that underpin our products, including Android, Ads, ML, Search, and Ads.

You’ll do the following.

You can keep the team functioning effectively by removing obstacles and streamlining team procedures.
All engineers, from recent graduates to seasoned professionals, should have a mentor or coach.
Together with your team, key stakeholders, and other engineering leaders, define and sculpt a product vision and roadmap.
Make a significant contribution to the hiring process by helping with everything from locating and screening potential hires to helping them complete their contracts.
As your team builds out the infrastructure to handle the demand, keep an eye on reliability.

In order to succeed, you must:.

You have prior managerial experience and a “people-first” philosophy; you place a high value on maintaining a positive team culture and you lead with empathy.
Excellent communication skills that you also encourage within your own team.
Experience building JVM systems written in Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
